You've probably heard many people say that it's good to trust in God. But have you ever wondered why you should trust in Him?
We've read countless stories throughout the Bible sharing how so many people have trusted God. There are many people in our lives now that trust Him. This has been a consistent pattern throughout history. Something out of the ordinary happens? Turn to God and see what He will do with the situation. Of course, not everyone has the same reaction to decide to put their trust in God. Some will choose to put their trust in other people or belief systems. Some may not know who they can trust at all. It's really up to you to choose who to put your trust in. I bet you may be wondering why you should trust God. Let's explore why...
There have been countless accounts of God fulfilling His promises to His people throughout the Bible. Many stories of how He's come through for those He loves time and time again. It may have been many years ago - but who said God has changed? The Bible tells us that He is never changing. It doesn't matter that we are living here on this earth two thousand years after the life of Jesus. He's still exactly the same as He was back in Bible times. Isn't that amazing?

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
Our God never changes. He never has and He never will. This verse in Hebrews paints the picture perfectly. I started reading through the Bible last year, and it has been such an amazing journey. I remember being constantly amazed with God and the way He handled the Israelites as they journeyed to the Promised Land in Exodus. He saved them from the Pharaoh in Egypt and was in the process of leading them to an amazing land, and what were they doing? Complaining. Wishing they were back in Egypt as slaves. Every time a need popped up, God provided for them. Did they appreciate it? Of course not. But God never stopped helping them. He didn't just give up because they didn't appreciate what He was doing for them. He actively pursued them and made sure they had everything they needed - even if all they were doing was complaining. God still strives to provide for us the same way He provided for the Israelites back then. He wants to rescue us from our bad situations and lead us to our Promised Land, giving us all we need along the way. God never changes. Do you know who trusted God throughout the very same situation?
Let's go back just a little bit from that time - before Moses was leading the Israelites to the Promised Land. God sent Moses to talk to Pharaoh to demand that he let God's people go. Moses went to have this conversation quite a few times, only to receive the same negative response every time. God turned Aaron's staff into a serpent and sent terrible plagues to Egypt. Pharaoh had still denied Moses's request. I know I would have definitely lost at least some faith and courage by this point in the story. It's amazing that Moses never wavered in his faith and trust in God. He didn't question what God was doing or instructing him to. He just went out and did as God told him to. The last plague resulted in the death of Pharaoh's firstborn son. That night, Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and demanded them to take the Israelites and leave the country at once. From this story we can learn that, even in the most difficult situations, God is still with us and still working for the best of interest for us. He is always for us, no matter what. Are you starting to see why it's beneficial to trust in God?
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
This verse shares the key to trusting in God. Trust in Him with all your heart and don't lean on your own understanding. Let's say that I start experiencing a problem with my car. Instead of calling my regular service guy, I decide to look it up online and try to fix the problem myself in attempt to save some money. Do you think I'd have a chance to fix the problem? Maybe. But there's also the chance that I can't fix it, or even make the problem worse. That's a great example of someone leaning on their own understanding. I definitely don't know the first thing when it comes to car repairs - I'll admit it. However, if I just call my service guy he would be able to pinpoint the problem immediately and fix it with no issues. It would be the same if you try to take a life problem into your own hands instead of trusting God to work everything out. You can try to fix it on your own, but there's no success guaranteed. OR you could give the situation to God in prayer and trust that He will work everything out in His perfect timing. No matter how the situation is looking, God will always guide your paths as long as you'll trust Him to do so.
"Do It Again" is a song by Elevation Worship and it has a line that perfectly summarizes why you should trust God. Part of the chorus says, "I'm still in your hands. This is my confidence, You've never failed me yet." I remember when this song came out, there were a lot of people that didn't like the phrasing they used. They thought that the composers were leaving room for God to fail in the future by saying God hasn't failed yet. However, I found a completely different meaning in that phrasing. God hasn't failed me yet through everything that has happened in my life. He could have walked away many times shaking His head in shame - but did He? No way! He loves us way too much much to just ditch us when the times get too hard or we make too many mistakes. God's got us in His hands. He only wants the best for us as we walk through this life. That doesn't mean it's always going to be a cakewalk. It means that even if we're walking through one of the hardest times in our lives, God will be right there with us making sure that we walk out unscathed and with the best outcome we can. Why should you trust God? Because He holds your whole world in His hands, and wants to help you walk through this journey we call life.
